Prepping a Bed

In an attempt to keep weeds under control, and to fix some more nitrogen in the soil (translated: to use the winter to make the dirt better), we planted the raised beds with winter rye late last fall.

Our neighbor just covered his raised beds with black plastic. His version makes for easier work in the spring, but our version makes for better soil.

But it's a fair bit of work to prepare the soil for spring planting.

I think this is going to be a good planting year. My sweetie transplanted all the kale and beets that had been growing in the greenhouse.
